The worries of the past were small, yet they loomed large in our minds. As we grow older, those tiny troubles seem to expand dozens of times over, becoming life’s dilemmas standing squarely before us.
Tears, too, come more frequently now, appearing anywhere, at any time. Sometimes there are only a few drops; at other times, they fall like a torrential downpour. Yet, little by little, I have learned how to receive everything with a certain calmness. Whether tears are good or bad no longer matters. I gently soothe my own heartbeat and say, “All right, tears.” Then I let them fall as they may.
The new drawings created for this exhibition, It’s Okay, Tears, along with my comic book A Walk Through the Heart, are not works of healing in the conventional sense. They record the struggles and difficulties I am facing at this stage of my life, as well as the ways I choose to navigate such moments.
Healing cannot solve everything. Perhaps what I want to convey now is simply this: to look at our pain together, calmly, to reflect on the paths each of us is taking through life, and to sincerely feel and live through every moment.

“I’m Zakuro. Sixteen is fine, too. I enjoy observing the world as I walk, recording these ordinary yet extraordinary moments in comics.
I graduated from the Graduate School of Manga at Kyoto Seika University and currently live in Guangzhou, where I continue to draw comics.
I spend most of my time observing everyday life, hoping to use my own visual language to convey a sense of comfort and reassurance, like the steady rhythm of a heartbeat.”
